🔐 Your data, your control. We're committed to respecting your privacy choices. You can request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.

Account Deletion Overview

If you decide to leave ADHD Buddy, you have the right to request complete deletion of your account and all personal data associated with it. We're committed to making this process straightforward and transparent.

This is permanent: Once your account is deleted, you cannot recover your data, routines, task history, or any user-generated content. Please ensure you've backed up any information you wish to keep before submitting a deletion request.

What Gets Deleted

When you request account deletion, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your user account and login credentials
  • Personal profile information (name, email, phone, etc.)
  • All routines, tasks, and task history
  • Time tracking and focus session data
  • Goal records and progress tracking
  • Any notes, journal entries, or user-generated content
  • Accessibility settings and preferences
  • Linked caregiver accounts or relationships
  • Device sync history and linked devices
  • Health and wellness data (mood logs, symptom tracking, etc.)
  • Any support tickets or feedback submitted

What We Retain for Legal Compliance

In certain cases, we retain minimal data for legal, financial, or safety reasons:

  • Email address: Retained for 7 years for GDPR tax and contract records (hashed and pseudonymized)
  • Deletion timestamp: Retained to prove deletion occurred
  • Payment records: Retained for 7 years for accounting compliance (if applicable)
  • Abuse reports: Retained if deletion was requested due to account misuse

These records cannot be used to identify you and are kept in secure, encrypted storage separate from your personal data.

Deletion Timeline

  1. Your request is received: Immediately upon form submission or email confirmation
  2. Verification (1-3 business days): We verify your identity and account ownership (you'll receive a confirmation email)
  3. Deletion processing (within 30 days): All personal data is permanently deleted from active systems
  4. Backup purge (within 60 days): Data is removed from all backup systems and archival storage
  5. Confirmation email: We'll notify you when deletion is complete

GDPR Right to Be Forgotten (EU users): If you're in the EU, we respond to deletion requests within 30 days as required by GDPR Article 17.

How to Request Account Deletion

You can delete your account through three methods:

Option 1: Delete Directly in the App

The easiest way to delete your account is through ADHD Buddy itself:

  • Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account
  • Review what will be deleted (you'll see the checklist above)
  • Enter your password to confirm
  • Click "Permanently Delete Account"
  • Check your email for a confirmation message

Option 2: Email Us Directly

If you prefer, send an email to privacy@adhd-buddy.nl with:

  • Your full name
  • Email address associated with your account
  • Statement: "I request permanent deletion of my ADHD Buddy account and all associated data"
  • Any optional information about why you're leaving (helps us improve)

Your Data Subject Rights

Under GDPR and similar privacy regulations, you have several rights:

  • Right to Erasure ("Right to Be Forgotten"): Request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format (before deletion)
  • Right to Access: Request a list of all data we hold about you
  • Right to Rectification: Request we correct inaccurate data
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Request we stop processing (but not delete) your data

Deleting Accounts with Caregiver Access

If you have a linked caregiver account:

  • Your data is deleted: All your personal data, tasks, and history are removed
  • Caregiver link is severed: The caregiver loses access to your account and data
  • Caregiver's own account is not deleted: Their account remains active; only the relationship between accounts is removed
  • If you're a caregiver: Deleting your caregiver account doesn't delete linked user accounts
